“Hey, mom! Guess what I learned in school today?”
Parents can remember how their young children couldn’t wait to share all that happened in school with them and how they relived the day together on so many occasions.
They remember how connected they felt to the school, the teachers, and the other families. Elementary schools, especially Catholic elementary schools, felt like family, and it was easy to know what was going on in and out of the classroom.
Fast forward a few years, and the child who shared so much in the early grades no longer has time for the many details of their day, and as children move into high school, parents feel particularly cut off.
