Alexis Winterborne, a senior at Sacred Heart High School, Vineland, has been selected as the 2011 Boys and Girls Clubs of Vineland Youth of the Year. She was awarded a $1,500 scholarship. The program recognizes outstanding efforts and contributions by a member to their family, school, community and Boys and Girls Club as well as having overcome personal challenges and obstacles. Alexis belongs to Sacred Heart High School Samaritan Club, the school newspaper and is a member of the cheerleading squad as well as the track team. She lives in Vineland and is the daughter of Greg and Stephanie Cain.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students from St. Peter School in Merchantville were recently inducted to the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society. The society was established to encourage an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. The St. Peter School Chapter is one of the few grammar school chapters in the United States.

Paul VI High School, Haddon Township, announced the 2011 recipients of its scholarship awards. Recognized by Paul VI High School for superior academic achievement are Robert Helsel of Guardian Angels School in Gibbsboro; Benjamin Rottler-Gurley of Assumption School in Atco; Emily Santella of Our Lady of Hope School in Blackwood; Morgan Hesser of St. Peter School in Merchantville; and Emma Erwin and Matthew Janis of St. Rose of Lima School in Haddon Heights. Each of the eighth-grade students earned top scores on the High School Placement Test and received an annually renewable scholarship to Paul VI. Award categories include the Principal’s Scholarship, the President’s Scholarship and the St. Lucy Filippini Scholarship. Funding is provided through the Paul VI Annual Giving Campaign, which is supported by alumni and friends of Paul VI.
