Editor:

As one of the 54 percent of Catholics who voted for Barack Obama I want to say that I voted my conscience.

There were moral issues on the table this election year besides Roe v. Wade. I would like to have seen the leaders of our diocese take the high road and honestly and completely address the complexities of all of the moral issues in a balanced manner.

In addition to addressing the additional moral issues (including war, our environment, and greed which is putting common people out of our jobs, homes, and health care) I believe that Obama’s economic, health care, and education policies will reduce the demand for abortions than would those of his opponent John McCain.

I join Pope Benedict XVI in congratulating Barack Obama and offering prayers for him and the people of the United States; and I think those in our diocese who are trying to demonize our new President are doing our country a disservice.
