Craig Gras and Joanne Kelly, both faculty members at Wildwood Catholic High School, were recently awarded a grant by the Cape Educational Fund in support of their project “Forgotten Heroes: the 22nd U.S. Colored Regiment.” Grant funds will enable Gras and Kelly to organize the clean-up and restoration of the Mt. Union/Bethel Cemetary on Tabernacle Road in Erma as well as to chronicle the members of the 22nd New Jersey Colored Regiment who are buried there.
Several seniors at local Catholic high schools have been named semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Tara M. Ostock of Paul VI High School, Haddon Township; Fiona M. Love of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, Pennsauken; and Rupak K. Bhuyan and Kevin M. Mittler of St. Augustine Preparatory School, Richland.
All semifinalists will be able to continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
More than 1.5 million juniors entered the 2009 National Merit Program. The nationwide pool of semi-finalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.| < Prev | Next > |
