The reconfiguration of the parishes is difficult. It is hard to confront the realities we face and to leave our zones of comfort. But it is necessary that this occur in our diocese if we are to have, as Bishop Galante said in his April announcement, a “new springtime” in our church.

While there will always be critics and those opposed to any kind of change who will bash the bishop or attack the process that led to the announced reconfiguration of the parishes, they do not represent the thinking of most people in the diocese who know that this change is necessary if parishes are to be stronger in the future.

I commend Bishop Galante for his vision, his leadership and deep love he has for the people of this diocese, the people he tries so hard to serve every day with apostolic zeal and personal integrity.
